What is a best friend? The dictionary doesn’t define “best friend” as a word, however it defines “best” and “friend.”
Best: “of most excellent, effective or desirable type or quality”
”to the highest degree, most”
Friend: “a person whom one knows and with whom one has a sexual or family relations”
So when combined a “best friend” is a person whom one knows of most excellence and to the highest degree? Am I right?
Okay… maybe you can’t exactly pinpoint the real meaning of what a best friend is, but it’s not something that can happen overnight or over a week.
Probably if you ask a typical teenager what best friend is, he or she would give answers like, “Best friend is someone who they share most of their interests with, someone who they spend most of their time with, talking to and hanging out with, someone who is always there to help and someone who really understands.”
It is something each and everyone of us, needs to have and will have, because it is where we learn the word “friendship” best.
From a personal experience, I see best friend as a person who I can tell all my secrets to. A person who I trust without any doubts and second thoughts. And I believe that trust is the foundation of friendship.
A friendship cannot exist if there is no trust and support. A friendship is not something that you push to exist. It is something that is not forced to be. It just is.
And even though you’re far away from each other, the distance doesn’t matter because all that really matter is the memories that you had together and will have, the bond that exists even if there is poor contact between friends, the trust that is still there.
